PATIENT INFORMATION

RULES OF CONDUCT AFTER AN IMPLANTOLOGICAL PROCEDURE.

You have just received ICX implants in a surgical procedure on your jaw.

Please observe the following basic instructions and, if necessary, further or more detailed instructions from your dentist conscientiously!

  • Sitting is better than lying down. Keep your head upright as much as possible during the day and also at night. You should not lie on the side of the implant.
  • You should not drive a vehicle for the first few hours after the procedure. Your ability to actively participate in traffic could be impaired by the narcotic or other medications.
  • Do not use a toothbrush in the area of the implant until the threads have been removed.
  • You should not rinse your mouth for the first few hours after the procedure, as this may cause bleeding. Normally, you can drink immediately after the treatment.
  • Instead of brushing your teeth, use a mouthwash several times a day.
  • You should not eat anything until the effects of the anesthetic have worn off.
  • In the first days after the procedure, you should avoid alcohol, nicotine, coffee and black tea, and do not smoke.
  • You should avoid sports and physical exertion for the first few days after the procedure.
  • The treatment area should be cooled externally as soon as possible after the procedure to counteract any pain and swelling.
  • Take the medication(s) prescribed for you.
  • While the implant is healing in the mouth, it could be fitted with a “gingiva former” or a temporary denture. A healing abutment is placed on the implant to allow the gums to heal before the next step of treatment. Do not chew on the side of the implant. The implant must be protected from stress.
  • The expected lifetime of ICX implants and abutments is at least 15 years. With good oral hygiene, a healthy lifestyle and regular check-ups, they can last a lifetime.

Please report to your dentist immediately if you notice any changes, especially in the area of the implant site, or other complaints, such as:

  • Pulsating pain on the day of the procedure
  • Numb feeling at the implantation site approx. 12 hours after the procedure
  • Pain or swelling at the implant site for several days after the procedure
  • More bleeding
  • Loosened temporary tooth

As a general rule, please contact your dentist if you are unsure!
