Dear customers,
Dear suppliers and medentis team,
For 10 days now, exactly since Friday 12 March 2021, the IT systems of medentis have been taken offline and we are therefore only accessible to a very limited extent. I apologize for this unusual circumstance.
As you may have gathered from the latest news, there has been a global attack by a suspected Chinese hacking group ‘Hafnium’ on the IT infrastructure of several hundred thousand businesses and organisations. Immediately after the announcement of this massive attack, which the German Federal Office for Information Security (BSI) classified as the highest threat level and for only the third time in its history declared the highest red alert level, we decided as a precaution to shut down all systems immediately in order to protect all sensitive data from unauthorized access. According to the current assessment of the BSI, the consequential damage of this aggressive, terrorist cyberattack is not yet foreseeable and will probably range from blackmail and crypto Trojans with ransom demands to extensive industrial espionage.
Since the shutdown, the entire medentis IT infrastructure has been subjected to extremely meticulous data forensics.
At this time, a final forensic report is not yet available, but fortunately no unauthorized access to data has been detected so far.
Parallel to this investigation, we have rebuilt and installed our complete IT infrastructure according to the latest security standards, so that we will be able to resume our normal operations from Monday (22.03), at the latest from Tuesday (23.03), and we will be available for you as usual.
From 22/23/03. all systems will work again and deliveries and orders, ICX-Denta5 work as well as ICX-Magellan planning and templates will be delivered smoothly and on schedule.
Particularly in the ICX-Denta5 and ICX-Magellan business units, however, we will initially not deliver according to the sequence of orders received, but prioritized according to OP dates.
By 25.03 at the latest, we will have completed all ICX-Magellan and ICX-Denta5 orders and will then be able to resume regular operations there as well. If there are any delays between now and then, I would like to ask you to excuse this due to this exceptional circumstance.
I would like to thank the entire medentis team for the many unsolicited overtime hours in all departments. The current situation has once again demonstrated the spirit and great loyalty of the entire medentis team. Thank you!
Together, we have mastered this major challenge and are now best equipped to deal with such attacks in the future. At the same time, we have invested in far-reaching optimizations in order to be able to work even faster and more effectively for our customers in the future.
I sincerely apologize to you, our customers.
We ourselves were faced with an unprecedented problem and therefore could not inform you in a more timely manner, as we ourselves did not have access to our data and systems.
We know that some surgeries have had to be cancelled or postponed; again, I apologize for this.
We all know how dependent every practice, dental lab, business and even company is on their IT infrastructure and I think anyone can be at the mercy of a criminal cyber attack.
You can trust us that we have done everything humanly possible to ensure that we are never exposed to such a situation again.
I ask for your understanding and apologies again.
I am looking forward to a continued trustful and successful cooperation for many years to come.
Best wishes to you and your families, stay healthy.
Sincerely yours
Alexander Scholz
